\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0What<\/strong>\u00a0is the value of a Naysayer?\u00a0 I can remember quite clearly a handful of people, almost a decade ago, that adamantly expressed their discontent over the very thought of contesting a Track & Field competition on a\u00a0Holiday<\/strong>weekend.\u00a0 In fact, even some in positions of\u00a0\u201clegendary importance\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0noted the gross inconvenience of hosting a meet at such sacred times as Memorial Day or July 4th \u00a0<\/sup>weekends, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.\u00a0 However, I once had a mentor that made it very clear to me,\u00a0\u201cIf you want to be wealthy, you cannot seek the advice of a poor man.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 There is certainly no financial wealth associated with the\u00a0Liberty Tour<\/strong>, as most of the events barely break even, but the advice was to note that it is useless to ask someone with no experience in Event Production, how to Produce an Event.\u00a0 My father did accuse me at times of not listening.<\/div>\n

The<\/strong>\u00a0East Region Championships over the past few years have drawn a paltry 110 \u2013 135 athletes.\u00a0 Not listening to the Naysayers projecting that the number of registrations would suffer in 2010 if the date of the meet was over the July 4th<\/sup>\u00a0Holiday, it was decided that such a weekend would likely be more appropriate than any other weekend.\u00a0\u00a0Let the Naysayers beware!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0This East Region Championships drew nearly 275 competitors from around the Northeast to contest their skills against some of the top athletes in the region.\u00a0 It is safe to say that many of the athletes came with a serious work ethic that made this Championship event\u00a0NO<\/strong>\u00a0Holiday for them.\u00a0 One only needs to have watched the two (2) day performance of Decathlete,\u00a0Raffael Craig<\/strong>\u00a0(Pictured Above)<\/em>, to fully grasp this thought, as he spent his\u00a0Holiday Weekend<\/strong>\u00a0amassing\u00a06.643 points<\/strong>\u00a0to take the top spot in the\u00a0Open Men\u2019s Decathlon<\/strong>, which saw a record number of competitors this year with a field of 13.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0There were so many wonderful performances at the 2010 East Region Open & Master\u2019s Championships, and I wish we could highlight every one of them.\u00a0 Because that is not possible, you will have to spend your next celebration of July 4th<\/sup>\u00a0with us.\u00a0 We look forward to sharing such an occasion with each of you.<\/p>\n
