\"\"<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It is unlike any other sport, even those that are also considered \u201cIndividual\u201d Sports\u00a0such as Swimming, Wrestling, or Tennis.\u00a0 It is a rare occasion that you might ever see a true Shot Putter that will also compete in the 800m Run, or a 1500m Runner that will also contest the Pole Vault.\u00a0 There is no such thing as a \u201cTrack & Field Body\u201d.\u00a0 Swimmers most often are taller, slimmer, and have a relatively wide wing span.\u00a0 Gymnasts are usually shorter, stronger, and have a low center of gravity.\u00a0 Can you imagine a 6\u20194\u201d tall Gymnast?\u00a0 Yet, although each of the individual events in Track & Field may attract a certain body type, all of that gets thrown out the window when one begins to discuss the Combined Events, such as the Decathlon and Heptathlon, which are events designed for those that are proverbial \u201cJack\u2019s of All Trades, but Master\u2019s of None\u201d.\u00a0 Because of this unique aspect, Track & Field is attractive to athletes of all different shapes, sizes, and talent levels.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201cThe thing that makes Track & Field such a fantastic sport is that it incorporates the three (3) basic concepts of physical movement, which are Running, Jumping, and Throwing\u201d, states Track & Field Sport\u2019s Chair Anthony Mills.\u00a0 He adds, \u201cBecause Track & Field has such a strong foundation in all of these basic Motor Skill Movements, it is not limited to any particular type of athlete.\u00a0 To be a competitive Basketball player at any level, it is a foregone conclusion that height will come into play sooner rather than later.\u00a0 In Track & Field, Sprinters can be tall or short, Throwers can weigh 300 lbs. or 200 lbs. and one does not have an advantage over the other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The chosen venue for Track & Field is Patriot\u2019s Stadium at Schenectady High School, which features a two (2) year old eight (8) lane track, two (2) sand pits, plenty of seating capacity, with the Throwing venues all within eye sight of the track.\u00a0 It will also be the host site for the Inaugural 2012 Liberty Games Festival, which is FREE to all Registered Athletes.\u00a0 The 2012 Liberty Games will also host each of the Combined Events in Track & Field for all appropriate age divisions, such as the Triathlon for Sub Bantams and Bantams; the Pentathlon for Midgets, Youth, and Masters, as well as the Heptathlon and Decathlon for Scholastic, Open, and Masters.\u00a0 In addition, the Track & Field competition will also host three (3) Race-walk competitions at distances of 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The E<\/em><\/strong>mpire <\/em><\/strong>S<\/em><\/strong>tate Sports Council<\/em><\/strong> is pleased to announce Track & Field as an Official Sport of the 2012 Liberty Games!\u00a0 If you are interested, and wish to compete for the State Title, you may now Register online. \u00a0In fact, if you Register early you can qualify for special prizes (see Below).<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 Because the Liberty Games are built around the concept of T-E-A-M (Together Everyone Achieves More), we would like to make a spot in each of the articles that announce the arrival of each Sport, to impress upon you the importance of the Sport\u2019s Chairs, as they are critical in the effort to Bring Back the Games!\u00a0 The Track & Field Sports Chair is Anthony Mills, also the founder of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series, and he is joined by a very strong supporting cast, with Committee Members for Race-walking, Officiating, Jumps, and Throws , and their cooperation is every bit a TEAM effort.\u00a0 When asked about what will make the Liberty Games a better State Games Mr. Mills remarked, \u201cWe want to make each Sport about the Sport, and the Athletes that participate in that Sport.\u00a0 It will not be about the Officials (although they are necessary), nor will it be about administration (also very necessary).\u00a0 Rather it will be about providing the very best competitive environment for Athletes of all ages, and to allow for maximum participation.\u00a0 The New State Games are not about \u201celitism\u201d, but about achievement and good solid competition, where sportsmanship reigns supreme.\u201d\u00a0 He adds, \u201cWe will do everything we can to adhere to that approach, and see to it that the Liberty Games will continue to grow each year.\u201d<\/p>\n
