{"id":2958,"date":"2016-07-23T11:38:41","date_gmt":"2016-07-23T15:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-games\/?p=2958"},"modified":"2016-07-24T18:55:57","modified_gmt":"2016-07-24T22:55:57","slug":"one-for-the-ages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-games\/post\/one-for-the-ages\/","title":{"rendered":"ONE For The AGES!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-games\/files\/2016\/07\/liberty-games-lead-article-photo-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2959 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-games\/files\/2016\/07\/liberty-games-lead-article-photo-01-400x267.png\" alt=\"liberty games lead article photo-01\" width=\"626\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It is a concept that has driven the <strong>Empire State Liberty Tour Track &amp; Field Series<\/strong> for more than a decade, and it became the foundation for the infrastructure of the <strong>Liberty Games<\/strong>, now the new state games, which just brought its <strong>5th <\/strong>year to a close on <strong>Sunday<\/strong>, <strong>July 17th<\/strong>.\u00a0 What is &#8220;IT&#8221;?\u00a0 <strong>&#8220;IT&#8221;<\/strong> is the growing number of <strong>Age Divisions<\/strong> that are contested at various <strong>Liberty Games<\/strong> competitions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The\u00a0former state games featured the older <strong>Scholastic Divisions<\/strong> (Juniors and Seniors in high school), along with the <strong>Open Division<\/strong> (ages 19 &#8211; 29).\u00a0 The goal was to produce <strong>&#8220;elite&#8221;<\/strong> athletes, and provide a stage on which they could perform.\u00a0 <strong>&#8220;The Empire State Sports Council took a different approach, and doesn&#8217;t look to &#8216;Feature&#8217; anyone, but rather EVERYONE!&#8221;<\/strong>, said Anthony Mills, the Executive Director of the <strong>Empire State Sports Council<\/strong>, which is a <strong>Non Profit 501(c)3<\/strong> organization that produces the <strong>Liberty Games<\/strong> each year.\u00a0 He further adds, <strong>&#8220;If we have a &#8216;Target Audience&#8217;, it would be the Youth Divisions, and NOT because we prefer to have them compete, but because we are looking to get Children off to the right start, when it comes to Exercise and Competition.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The <strong>Liberty Games<\/strong> first launched in <strong>2012<\/strong>, and so <strong>2016<\/strong> was the <strong>5th<\/strong> year of this annual sports event, which draws Athletes from around the state, and in some cases the Northeast, pending the sport being contested.\u00a0 <strong>&#8220;Our goal is to get people moving!&#8221;<\/strong>, exclaims the <strong>Director of Sports Medicine<\/strong> for the <strong>Empire State Sports Council<\/strong>, Dr. John Ferguson.\u00a0 He continues, <strong>&#8220;We want to see Children develop good exercise habits at an early age, so that they can continue to enjoy moving when they enter their Senior years.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 One does not need to look too hard to find evidence of that, as the youngest competitor this year for <strong>Track &amp; Field<\/strong> was three <strong>(3)<\/strong> year old <strong>Jacob Goodrich<\/strong> (<strong><em>Pictured Above<\/em><\/strong> from Chatham Gold), and the eldest competitor, by age only, was <strong>Dominic Rappazzo<\/strong>, now <strong>75 <\/strong>years young (<strong><em>Pictured Above<\/em><\/strong>).\u00a0 Both are shown competing the <strong>100m Dash<\/strong> at the <strong>Liberty Games<\/strong>, and Dominic set a new <strong>Liberty Games Record<\/strong> with a time of 15.22 seconds!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>&#8220;I believe that one thing that separates the Empire State Sports Council from other &#8216;similar&#8217; competitions&#8221;<\/strong>, according to <strong>Track &amp; Field Sports Chair<\/strong> Shannon Gawronski, <strong>&#8220;is that they have figured out a way to make exercise a Family Adventure, which includes Children, Parents, and even Grandparents all at the same time!&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 This is certainly true, as Jacob Goodrich has a Sister, a Brother, his Mom, and even extended Family (Uncles and Cousins) that also compete at the same time.\u00a0 The events in which they participate range from the <strong>100m Dash<\/strong> to <strong>Long Jump<\/strong> to <strong>Steeplechase<\/strong> to <strong>Javelin<\/strong>, and much more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 The <strong>Empire State Sports Council<\/strong> truly believes in their motto, <strong>&#8220;Sports for Everyone, Sports for Life!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 For all of the <strong>Results<\/strong> from the <strong>Liberty Games Track &amp;
