\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0From his childhood days L. Mark Dolata was always fascinated with\u00a0Sabre Fencing.\u00a0 The first day that his dad took him to watch\u00a0European Sabre Championships in his native Poznan (Poland)\u00a0remains in his memory to this day.\u00a0 The speed of action, the\u00a0agility of competitors and fencing mystique left lasting marks on\u00a0his character which after years, helped him to immerse into his dream sport.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Mark took Sabre into his hands about 16 years ago and after an initial\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0warm up period, he went to fence among seniors and veterans at the\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0local, regional and national competitions.\u00a0 While helping his son Phil<\/span>\u00a0to climb through the ranks of the US Sabre Fencing elite, he began\u00a0<\/span>earning medals at various events and found his name on the veteran’s<\/span>\u00a0National Ranking List.\u00a0 In his medal collection one can find National,<\/span>\u00a0Regional and Empire State Games awards.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In April 2005, Mark decided to found a Sabre Fencing school which\u00a0<\/span>would operate upon the basic premise of “Fencing for All” and bring\u00a0<\/span>the sport of fencing to the local community.\u00a0 Thus, the Capital<\/span>\u00a0District Fencing School (CDFS) was established in Schenectady, NY.\u00a0 A year later, Foil and<\/span>\u00a0Epee classes were added to the school’s program and CDFS became the<\/span>\u00a0only “all weapons” fencing facility active year around.\u00a0 In 2006 and<\/span>\u00a02007 Mark organized Regional Youth Circuit competitions that attracted<\/span>\u00a0240 and 260 young fencers respectively, from fencing clubs as far as<\/span>\u00a0Georgia and the Carolinas.\u00a0 These events, held in Schenectady High School,<\/span>\u00a0helped to raise the local awareness about this Olympic sport and<\/span>\u00a0attracted many local youth to competitive fencing.\u00a0 Every year, CDFS<\/span>\u00a0runs a number of local, club level competitions to help local fencers stay in competitive shape.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Over the last few years Mark helped several young fencers to achieve\u00a0Regional, and some, a National, recognition.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Mark is still working full time in the field of environmental\u00a0engineering, but upon retirement he wants to focus his energy on\u00a0further expansion of fencing activities in the Capital District\u00a0Region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
