Sex\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><strong>(a) Prohibition against discrimination; exceptions.<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<strong><em>In short<\/em><\/strong>, this Amendment allowed the same support for athletic and exercise programs for girls, as was provided for boys in the educational environment.\u00a0 As you have seen history unfold, it has changed Women\u2019s Sports forever!\u00a0 The Constitution Classic of 2009 saw this played out in grand fashion, some to an interesting twist of \u201crevenge\u201d <strong><em>(see the pictures that follow).<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 To start things off on the right foot, this Constitution Classic had more Open &amp; Master\u2019s Women competing than any Liberty Tour event in its history.\u00a0 One of the first women to <strong>\u201cvault\u201d<\/strong> into the record books is Jessica Sector <strong><em>(Pictured Above)<\/em><\/strong>, who not only set the Young Women\u2019s Pole Vault record for the Constitution Classic, but with a vault of 2.90m, shattered the previous Liberty Tour record by .50m.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>In addition to vaulting, <\/em><\/strong>there were separate flights of Master\u2019s Women competition in the Shot, Discus, and Javelin.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the story of the day\u201d, exclaims Liberty Tour Executive Producer, Anthony Mills.\u00a0 He continues, \u201cThis level of participation by the ladies is unprecedented in the Adirondack Association of USATF and the Empire State Liberty Tour.\u00a0 They have now set the standard for future generations of Young Women and Master\u2019s Women in Track &amp; Field participation.\u201d\u00a0 USATF Adirondack President Chris Rush adds, \u201cUSATF has a slogan that \u2018Track &amp; Field is A Sport for Everyone\u2026A Sport for Life\u2019 and these ladies are proving that to be quite true.\u00a0 As a Masters athlete at the age of 73, it is encouraging to see such an increase in the number of Master\u2019s competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>With the President\u2019s Open <\/em><\/strong>(the host of the Empire State Track &amp; Field Qualifying Trials for the Adirondack Association) coming up on Saturday &amp; Sunday, June 13<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; 14<sup>th<\/sup>, it appears that many athletes are taking advantage of the developmental meets as the precursor to their participation at the Qualifying Trials, as the Constitution Classic not only set a record for participation by Women at this meet, but also set a record for overall participation, with an increase of nearly 10% over it\u2019s largest attendance back in 2007.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The 3<sup>rd<\/sup> leg<\/em><\/strong> of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track &amp; Field Series will be the <strong>President\u2019s Open<\/strong> which begins on Saturday, June 13<sup>th<\/sup> with competition in all of the combined events, some Master\u2019s Throwing and Jumping events, as well as some of the distance races on the track, including the 10,000m Run.\u00a0 The full slated meet, and the second day of competition for the Heptathlon and Decathlon, will be Sunday, June 14<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Please note that this is the Adirondack Qualifying Trials for the Empire State Track &amp; But it is a Constitution Classic record for both Master&#8217;s Women (40 &#8211; 49) Pamela Allie-Merrill with a time of 8:20.16, and Master&#8217;s Men (65 &#8211; 69), Michael Rosenthal with a walk of 9:09.82\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a rel=\"attached-to-1212\" href='http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-tour\/files\/2009\/06\/bob-100.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-tour\/files\/2009\/06\/bob-100-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-2-2087\" srcset=\"http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-tour\/files\/2009\/06\/bob-100-200x200.jpg 200w, http:\/\/essportscouncil.org\/liberty-tour\/files\/2009\/06\/bob-100-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-2-2087'>\n\t\t\t\tTo prove that Track &#038; Field is truly a &#8220;Sport for Life&#8221;, the Great Grandfather of Track &#038; Field, Bob Matteson, once again sets a new record in the Master&#8217;s Men 100m Dash with a time of 22.40.
