\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It w\"President's<\/a>ould be the first time that an Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series<\/strong> event would be contested outside of a 50<\/strong> mile radius from the Capital District Region of New York.\u00a0 There were certainly going to be several New Teams<\/strong> that had NEVER<\/strong> participated in a Liberty Tour Track & Field Series<\/strong> event!\u00a0 One such Team<\/strong> would be the Norwich YMCA Bolts<\/strong>, alias “The BOLTS”!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The start time for the President’s Open<\/strong> was 10:00 am<\/strong>, and the forecast was NOT <\/strong>Good all week with the typical “Gloom & Doom”<\/strong> by meteorologists!\u00a0 The Thunder <\/strong>rolled and the Lightning Bolts<\/strong> were quick and plentiful!\u00a0 After about 30 <\/strong>minutes of this Power Storm<\/strong>, the rain subsided, the temperatures warmed, and eventually the Sun came out to dry things up a bit.\u00a0 However, for the more than 10 Track & Field Teams<\/strong> that entered the President’s Open<\/strong>, The Bolts<\/strong> still kept on coming!\u00a0 They were on the Track<\/strong>, at the Long Jump Pit<\/strong>, the Shot Put Circle<\/strong>, and at the Discus Cage!<\/strong>\u00a0 They were in Elementary School, High School, College, and even Experienced Athletes (code for Master’s Athletes)!\u00a0 Everywhere one looked there were Bolts <\/strong>to be seen, including Vanessa Salerno<\/strong> (Pictured Above<\/em><\/strong>), who took 1st Place<\/strong> in the Senior Scholastic Girl’s Long Jump<\/strong> with a leap of 4.12m.<\/p>\n

\"President's<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0As the saying goes, “at the end of the day”, there was little surprise that “The Bolts”<\/strong> had accumulated 203<\/strong> points, providing a thunderous conclusion to their 1st Place Finish<\/strong> at the President’s Open<\/strong>. \u00a0“Our Bolts team had a positive environment in which to excel, and they were very happy that they did so well.”<\/strong>, exclaimed Head Track & Field Coach for the Norwich YMCA Bolts<\/strong>, Shannon Gawronski, who is also the Track & Field Sports Chair <\/strong>for the Empire State Sports Council<\/strong>.\u00a0 She continued, “I am thankful, and pleased, to be a part of this fantastic organization (ES Sports), for providing such opportunities as the Liberty Tour Track & Field Series, for Athletes of ALL ages to experience the same excitement as the Bolts did at the President’s Open!”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Next up on the Liberty Tour Track & Field Series<\/strong> calendar is the Adirondack District Championships.\u00a0 <\/strong>This meet offers the Combined Events <\/strong>on Friday<\/strong>, June 17th <\/strong>beginning at 5:00 pm<\/strong>, and the Full Meet <\/strong>on Saturday<\/strong>, June 18th<\/strong> at Taconic Hills High School<\/strong>, and it will begin at 10:00 am.\u00a0 <\/strong>Be sure to note that the Adirondack District Championships<\/strong> are weighted in the scoring, which means that 1.5 points<\/strong> is awarded for each point scored!<\/p>\n\n\t\t
