\"\"<\/a>In a time when Parents<\/strong> and Coaches<\/strong> tend to want to place Athletes in a box, especially at a young age, and encourage them to invest all of their time into just one activity, being one dimensional, it is exciting to see some Athletes break away from such narrow thinking, and train to become talented in several.\u00a0 The sport of Track & Field<\/strong> makes it easier to accomplish such a goal, and Jamie Cocca<\/strong> (Pictured Above<\/em><\/strong>), from Averill Park Road Runners<\/strong>, takes it to a new height by setting the Adirondack Championship Record<\/strong>, and the Liberty Tour Record<\/strong> in the Weight Pentathlon<\/strong>, which consists of all five throwing events (Shot<\/strong>, Discus,<\/strong> Javelin<\/strong>, Hammer<\/strong>, and Weight<\/strong>).\u00a0 The previous Liberty Tour Track & Field Record<\/strong> was his own from 2016<\/strong>.\u00a0 In 2017<\/strong> he broke his previous Record<\/strong> by 71 <\/strong>points, for a total score of 3,384<\/strong> points!\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The irony of this year, though, is that Jamie\u2019s older brother, David Cocca<\/strong>, held the previous Weight Pentathlon Record<\/strong> for the Senior Boys<\/strong> (17 -18<\/strong>) with a score of 1,509<\/strong> points.\u00a0 That Record was eclipsed by Aung Soe<\/strong> (Country Mills Eagles) by posting a total of 1,593<\/strong> points.<\/p>\n

Not to be outdone by the their male counterparts, the Women<\/strong> had their say in Record Breaking<\/strong>, too!\u00a0 In her first appearance at a Weight Pentathlon<\/strong> event, Nadia Khan<\/strong> (Country Mills Eagles) set the an Adirondack Championship Record<\/strong>, and a Liberty Record<\/strong>, with a score of 1,822<\/strong> points, passing Teammate Unique Bryant\u2019s previous Record<\/strong> in that event.<\/p>\n

Claire Howard<\/strong> (In A NY Minute) set a new Adirondack Championship Record<\/strong> in the Youth Girl\u2019s Pentathlon<\/strong>.\u00a0 Her previous Record<\/strong> from 2016<\/strong> (1,925<\/strong> points) was briefly broken by Alana Burden<\/strong> (Country Mills Eagles) who scored 1,954<\/strong> points this year.\u00a0 Yet, Claire surged ahead in the final event of the Pentathlon, 800m Run, to secure her Record<\/strong> at 2,300<\/strong> points.<\/p>\n

Claire\u2019s younger brother, Neil Howard III<\/strong> is also making a name for himself, as he set a new Liberty Tour Record<\/strong> in the Midget Boy\u2019s Pentathlon<\/strong> with a score of 2,014<\/strong> points, replacing former Record Holder Max Comer<\/strong> (Country Mills Eagles), who has held that Record<\/strong> since 2009<\/strong>.\u00a0 \u201cIt is one of my favorite Track & Field Events\u201d<\/strong>, stated Head Track & Field Coach <\/strong>Anthony Mills from the Country Mills Eagles<\/strong>, who also set a Master\u2019s Men\u2019s (55 \u2013 59) Weight Pentathlon Record<\/strong> with 1,611 <\/strong>points.\u00a0 He continues, \u201cWe believe that the Combined Events at ALL age divisions is important for most Track & Field Athletes, both from a training point of view, and a Biomechanical perspective, as it helps Athletes to develop so many skills that are the foundation of ALL Sports!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
