January Thaw…Placed on Ice
Have you ever wondered why it is necessary to hurry up, just to stand in line? Have you ever planned so far ahead, that you found yourself actually behind? Have you ever thought, “If Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, how in the world did these two creatures ever meet in the first place?” Well, even with all of my study in Psychology, or better yet, Abnormal Psychology, and having spent plenty of intern hours in various Mental Institutions, I am unable to provide the appropriate response to such universal questions.
However, I can tell you why the January Thaw got placed on ICE. Perhaps that will be of some assistance to you. Scheduled for Sunday, January 22nd, the date for the January Thaw was set as soon as the UAlbany Basketball schedule was announced for 2012. We then took that date and proudly posted it to our website, but just like Records are Made to be Broken, Schedules are Made to be Changed, Updated, Re-arranged, Cancelled, and did I say Obliterated? It is a known reality that the best laid plans can sometimes go awry, so we will chalk the postponement of the January Thaw up to that cause.
Well, actually it hasn’t been Postponed. It has sort of been Cancelled, and then Replaced. You guessed it (I hope)! Due to scheduling conflicts at UAlbany, the Bubble could not be used for January 22nd. So we have been moved or bumped to Saturday, February 25th. Hence a new problem was created…How does one produce a meet known as the January Thaw in February? The obvious answer is that it cannot be done. Therefore, the January Thaw has been cancelled for 2012, but the February Frost will take its place on Saturday, February 25th. We are finalizing the details, but we are anticipating a start time of 11:00 am, which would place Check-In time at 10:00 am. For all those that have already Registered for the January Thaw, your Registration has just been accepted for the February Frost.
Because scheduling is a very complicated and complex issue, we want to extend our appreciation to the University @ Albany for their willingness and desire to work with the Empire State Sports Council in being the host for each of the Winter Express events in 2011, 2012, and 2013, and especially the Liberty Games coming in July of 2012. We certainly understand that these things happen, and so we will remain flexible…so, just call us Gumby & Pokey!
