Breaking the Record, What a Classic
It was Hazy, Hot, and Humid, but it didn’t break the record heat of 95 degrees at the inaugural Constitution Classic of 2005 in Niskayuna. But, the weather didn’t keep Rayshawn Byard (Pictured Above) of the ICSS (International Charter School of Schenectady) Jaguars from breaking the 200m Youth Boys record with a time of 27.12. That makes two straight meets that an ICSS Youth Boy has broken the meet record in that event. But the record breaking didn’t stop there! It wasn’t until after 35 records fell that the meet came to a close. Andrew Beck from Olympic Region Track & Field Club dismantled a couple of two year old records, formerly held by Tim Holzhauer, by setting a new mark in the Intermediate Boys 100m Dash with a time of 12.30, and the Long Jump with a leap of 5.76m. Not to be overshadowed, Kayla Owens set two new Midget Girl records in the Long Jump (3.96m) and the Shot Put (7.08m). Jason Hewitt, who set the Patriot’s Invitational record in the Steeplechase, came back for more and set a new record in the same event for the Constitution Classic, but did so, after breaking the 800m record for the Master’s Men (30 -34) with a smoking 2:08.25. Probably the most dramatic record of the day came early on when Master’s Men (35 – 39) Shot Putter, Richard Harrison of the Greater Boston Track & Field Club absolutely destroyed the previous record by more than 3m, with a powerful put of 17.07m! Next up for the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series is the third stop, the President’s Open. This meet will host the Combined Events, as well as the regular meet schedule. It will also be host to the first Signature Event, the Albert W. Mills Sr. 800m Run. The meet will begin at 10:00 am with a brief Opening Ceremony, to present to his wife of more than 50 years, a memory entitled, “In Honor Of”. Be sure to make your way to this event and be a part of the excitement, competition, fun, and the memories that are sure to encompass this Signature Event.
