Just Following the Flo!
“This Championship event had to look different than every other ‘Championship’ event” exclaimed Executive Producer, Anthony Mills. He said, “The Empire State Liberty Tour decided five (5) years ago to launch a series of Track & Field events that incorporated all age divisions (Youth, Scholastic, Open, & Masters). USA Track & Field (the National governing body for Track & Field in the USA) has a slogan that states Track & Field is ‘A Sport for Everyone, A Sport for Life’; and this perfectly embodies one of our most important missions for the Liberty Tour series.”
Without any previous Championships of such a model to draw from, the Liberty Tour staff just followed the Flo; that is Flo Meiler (Pictured Above), who successfully tied the Master’s Women’s World Pole Vault record with a vault of 1.90m. The following week at the National Master’s Championships, she shattered the record with a vault of 2.01m. There is no doubt that this meet was a success, given the fact that it only had a three (3) month lead time in which to prepare, as it drew athletes from all over the Empire State, as well as some from other states that were intrigued by this new event.
