BEING QUALIFIED
Each year, the Track & Field Season is made up of four (4) Developmental Meets, two (2) Qualifying Meets, and two (2) Championship Meets. To date, the Country Mills Eagles have competed in the first three (3) Developmental Meets (Patriot’s Invitational, Constitution Classic, President’s Open), all of which are meant to allow the Team to prepare for their first Qualifying Meet (Adirondack District Championships).
The Adirondack District Championships is the first Qualifying Meet in a series of Meets, of which will eventually lead to the National Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, NC. However, the first step is to “Qualify” to advance to the Region I Championships in New Haven, CT. In 2022, the Country Mills Eagles had each Athlete “Qualify” in a minimum of one (1) Event. According to Head Coach Anthony Mills, “This may be one of the most talented Track & Field Teams we have had since Country Mills Eagles Track & Field began in 2001.” It may be a bit early to determine that, at this point of the season, as this is only the halfway point, but anything is possible.
Nicholas Cenci, new to Track & Field in 2022, qualified in all three (3) of his Events taking 2nd Place in both the 200m Dash and the Javelin.
Marissa Fiacco had a BUSY Day, as she contested the entire Heptathlon in one (1) Day, instead of the two (2) Days over which it is usually contested. In addition, she competed in the Open 400m, and is also a valuable part of the 4 x 100m Relay, and the 4 x 400m Relay. For the first time since 2005, there is a New Record Holder in the Girl’s (15-16) Heptathlon! Congratulations on your Record of 2,622 points!
Qualifying in the Triple Jump was Julia Melchior taking the Bronze Medal. She is also a part of the 4 x 400m Relay Team.
Jae-cion Boyd had a BANNER Day as he swept Gold Medals in every Event in which he participated (100m, 200m, Long Jump, Triathlon).
The youngest Member of the Country Mills Eagles, Xavier Luciano, qualified in the 400m Dash.
Also new to Track & Field in 2022 is George Krause, but he is quickly carving out his own space, as he qualified in the High Jump, Long Jump, and the 800m Run.
For the first time since 2018, an Eagle qualified in the Steeplechase. Ryan Slingerland is looking to step into the Running Shoes of former Country Mills Eagles Steeplechaser, Henry Goca, who took the Silver at the National Track & Field Championships. Ryan also qualified in the Javelin and the 800m Run.
Ethan Goldberg was complete by qualifying in all four (4) of his Events (Long Jump, High Jump, Discus, & Javelin).
Following in the footsteps of former Country Mills Eagles Pentathletes Kelsey Hanson, Shannon Lenzi, and Alana Burden, Arianna Mills qualified in the Pentathlon, but also the Javelin, High Jump, and Discus.
Olivia Berkman qualified in the Long Jump, 4 x 400m Relay, and the 4 x 100m Relay in her first year of Track & Field!
Receiving the Baton from Olivia is Ana Van Plew, also in her first year of Track & Field. She qualified in the 4 x 100m Relay, 4 x 400m Relay, and the 800m Run.
Jack Kroll, who moonlights as a Ski Jumper, qualified in the High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, and 800m Run. He is, most certainly, a JACK of All Trades! 😊
