PURSUIT of HAPPINESS… and RECORDS!

Liberty Track Meet

“…That among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness!”  This one of the most famous quotes from the Declaration of Independence, and it has been a driving FORCE in my life, of which the Liberty Tour Track & Field Series is just a part.  I am unsure where “Breaking Records” falls when it comes to “Happiness”, but the Ladies exercised their FREEDOM to break many Records at the 2022 Independence Invitational @ Rensselaer High School!

Sydnie Becker (Chatham Gold) had a banner day Sprinting into the Record Books with this 100m Dash, where she set a new Girl’s (9-10) Independence Invitational Record, in that event, with a time of 15.64, overcoming the previous Record of 15.69 set by Ana Adams in 2016.  More “Happiness” came along when she broke the Girl’s 200m Dash Record with an impressive time of 31.76, replacing the old Record of 33.30 by Suzie Canetto in 2014.  Sydnie took her “Happiness” even further by leaping into the Independence Invitational Records setting a new Girl’s (9-10) Long Jump Record with a mark of 3.71m, passing over Suzie Canetto, once again, who held the Record with a distance of 3.38m since 2014.

Also jumping into the Record Books for the Independence Invitational was Imani Pugh (Majistics) with a BIG Leap of 4.92m, breaking the previous Girl’s (15-16) Long Jump Record of 4.06m, set by Taisie Harrington in 2014.

Placing 2nd in the Heptathlon at the Region I Championships to Imani Pugh (1st Place), Marissa Fiacco (Country Mills Eagles) set a new Girl’s (15-16) Javelin Record with a toss of 23.90m, passing the Record (22.67m) set by a former Country Mills Eagles Athlete (Kyaira Coffin) in 2013.

Bella Scott (Upstate Panthers) replaced one of the longest held Records of the Independence Invitational in the Girl’s (15-16) 400m Dash when she posted a time of 1:07.o8, previously owned by Chloe Williams with a time of 1:10.43.

Record Setting Machine, Raiyah Patterson (Majistics) shuffled a few Independence Invitational Records, herself!  With a time of 13.99, she took over the Girl’s (11-12) 100m Dash from former record holder Lily Russo (In A NY Minute) who set the Record in 2015 with a time of 14.32Raiyah also bumped Amelia Canetto (30.49) from the Girl’s (11-12) 200m Record Book when she flew by with a time of 29.58.  “Speed Kills”, so the saying goes, and Raiyah proved that on the Long Jump Runway, too, when she set a new Girl’s (11-12) Long Jump Record of 4.71m, obliterating the previous Record of 4.10m set by Amelia Canetto in 2014.  A rough day for Amelia!

Liberty Track Meet

It was a GREAT MEET to be a Girl in the 15-16 Age Division, for sure, as Nassima Poinsette (Schenectady Superstars) shattered the previous Record (6:49.55) in the 1500m, held by Katherine Fottrell, by cruising to a time of 6:06.43.
