CORPORATE CHALLENGE KICK-OFF!
Rarely does one use the term “Kick-off” when referring to Basketball (3-on-3), but in the case of the 2018 Empire State Corporate Challenge, it is very much true… because the Kick-off Event for the Inaugural Season of the Corporate Challenge was, indeed, Basketball!
There are seven (7) Events that make up the 2018 Empire State Corporate Challenge (Basketball (3-on-3), Softball, Track & Field, 5k Run, Kickball, Dodgeball, and The Great Empire Walk), and the Basketball competition was up first. It was a drizzly, precipitous kind of day, so being indoors for this event was helpful. In fact, one (1) of the Players from CapCom got caught in the rain going from his car to the front door, and once he stepped on the Basketball Court he had grown to 7’!
With the assistance of DEADLY Shooting from 3 Point Range, CapCom was unstoppable, as they went undefeated throughout the Tournament to WIN the GOLD Medal for the Basketball competition (Pictured Above). “To say that they were ‘Heads & Shoulders’ above the rest is an understatement, but it was also a physical reality!”, states Anthony Mills, Executive Director for the Empire State Sports Council, which produces the Empire State Corporate Challenge. He adds, “They were nearly flawless in their execution, regardless of who had the ball. It will be exciting, and interesting, to have them return to defend their Gold Medal in 2019!”
Taking the Silver Medal was the Country Mills Eagles, and the Bronze Medal went to Berkshire Bank. For those tracking the scoring for the top three (3) Corporate Teams, it is as follows:
CapCom – 10 Points
Country Mills Eagles – 8 Points
Berkshire Bank – 6 Points
Softball is up next, and will begin on June 4th, which is just two (2) weeks away. Be sure to get your Team Registered NOW, as ES Sports will need time to organize the Pool Play at the appropriate Field, Day, and Time. On the heels of that is the Track & Field competition, and the 5k Run, which are scheduled for Saturday, July 14th. For those looking for Track & Field opportunities to “Practice”, ES Sports offers the Liberty Tour Track & Field Series, which boats six (6) different Track & Field competitions from Memorial Day Weekend through Independence Day Weekend, and take place throughout the Empire State, a few of them are located in or nearby the Capital Region.
