Kossor Kicks Off Liberty Games

2016 Olympic Hopefuls Shine

JMJC's Nick Kossor (blue uniform) throws opponent on his way to the 66kg title

Scotia, NY – It was one of those “Triple-H Days” (Hazy, Hot, & Humid), and if this event was held at the same location that it was in 2012, the weather could have been a factor.  However, a decision was made back in February, when it was still cold and snowy, to move the Judo event to Mekeel Christian Academy, which boasts a relatively New Gymnasium with very comfortable Air Conditioning.  “It may have been the single greatest improvement we could have made for this event in 2013” responds Anthony Mills, the Executive Director of the Empire State Sports Council, which oversees the Production and Management of the Liberty Games.

However cool and comfortable it may have been for everyone, Nick Kossor didn’t make it so for any of his opponents on the day, as he made his way to the Medal Stand taking the Gold in the 66 kg weight class.  He is Pictured Above throwing one of his competitors en route to winning that Title at the 2nd Annual Liberty Games, which was a large success, with more than 60 Athletes from all over the Northeast gathered to compete at this New and Exciting event.

JMJC's Alex Turner (blue uniform) scores on his way to the 73kg title

Other high level competition featured 2016 Olympic Hopefuls, Brad Bolen (24), Alex Turner (20) and Tony Sangimino (22) from the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) in Glenville, NY in action. “I am pleased with the progress of this event” said Judo Sports Chair and Olympic Silver Medalist, Jason Morris. “The competition level was higher this year and the venue was fantastic” the 4x Olympian added.

The hometown team, JMJC led the medal count, winning 24 overall Medals.
