A “Steep” Climb to Independence

Aaron Stall

In a day and age when all too often we can witness people everywhere trying to take a short-cut to success, whether in business, school, and unfortunately sports, one has to wonder if such a prevailing attitude stems from low self esteem, fear, irresponsibility, or a lack of education as to what it takes to be the best.  On a warm but pleasant Summer evening in the Town of Valtie, NY, there were a group of Athletes that proved that it is a “Steep” Climb to Independence, as only one (1) person can hold a Record at a time.

With perhaps one of the largest Steeplechase fields in Liberty Tour history, there were six (6) Steeplechase Records broken in several age divisions.  One of the strongest and most consistent Steeplechase competitors is Aaron Stahl (Pictured Above), who set an Independence Invitational Record in the Young Men’s 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 7:07.11.  Aaron was one of the youngest Steeplechase competitors to set a record, but there were records set in the 60-64 and 65-69 Age Divisions, as well.

There were more than 50 new Independence Invitational Records set on the evening, but we wanted to shine the spotlight from the this celebration on those that run one of the most difficult races in all of Track & Field.

To view the current Records for the Independence Invitational, click on “Records” from the navigation bar for the Liberty Tour, and then click on “Independence Invitational”.  For all of the Results from the 2011 Independence Invitational, just click “Results” from the navigation bar for the Liberty Tour.
