I FEEL the NEED…

In the original Top Gun movie, Maverick makes a statement to Goose as they are walking to their Aircraft, about to begin a Combat Exercise, “I Feel the NEED, the NEED for SPEED!” The Constitution Classic was FILLED with SPEED! In some cases, there were several Athletes that broke the Meet Record in the same Age Division! 😊 WOW!
For instance, in the Boy’s (15-16) Division, both Lucas Nalbane (Upstate Panthers) with a 55.23, and Keygan Newman (Magistics) with a 55.00 broke the Constitution Classic Record in the 400m, only to have Kole Irwin (Upstate Panthers) take it all with a New Liberty Tour Record of 51.07, replacing the previous Record of 56.19 set by Jack Vite (Country Mills Eagles) back in 2012. Kole also set a New Constitution Classic Record in the 100m with a time of 11.56 topping the previous Record of 11.93 set by Deron Davis in 2019. In that same 100m Race, the Record was also broken, albeit briefly, by Kameryn Clark (Country Mills Eagles) with an 11.91, along with Braylon Dennis (11.84) and George Garrett (11.79) both from Boston North Track Club!
Derek Adams (Schenectady Superstars) set the Track on Fire in the Boy’s (9-10) Division with a BLISTERING 1:06.61 in the 400m passing the previous Record or 1:11.57 set by Taydence Morrison (Country Mills Eagles) in 2018. This was a New Liberty Tour Record!
In the Girl’s (13-14) Division, it was Raiyah Patterson (Magistics) who set a New Constitution Classic Record in the 200m with a time of 27.04 overcoming the previous Record by Kelsey Hanson (Country Mills Eagles) which was 27.28 set back in 2006! It took 18 years, but there is a New Record now! To add to her Resume, Raiyah also set a New Liberty Record in the Long Jump with an aggressive Leap of 5.27m, CRUSHING the previous Record of 4.76m, set in 2007 by Dahni Anderson! To complete the Trifecta, she also set a New Liberty Tour Record in the Triple Jump, SMASHING the previous Record of 8.83m held by Grace Smith (Delmar Whippets) since 2011, with a Power Leap of 10.65m!
To PROVE that Track & Field is “A Sport for Everyone, A Sport for Life”, Dominic Rappazzo (Master’s 80-84) set a New Liberty Tour Record in both the 100m (15.91) and the 400m (1:13.30)! That noted, it should be a Record ANYTIME one completes the 400m past the age of 80! 😊
For the 2nd straight Meet, the Country Mills Eagles Girl’s (13-14) set a Record in the 4x100m Relay with a time of 54.90, TORCHING the previous Record of 1:00.93 set in 2012 by the Averill Park Road Runners.
Although the Shot Put Circle has a Diameter of 7’, and the Discus Circle a Diameter of 8’, it takes Speed to maximize the Distance Thrown! Karen Ellsworth (Syracuse Chargers) took Hillen Von Maltzahn out of the Record Books in both the Shot Put and the Discus Throw by posting a Shot Put of 7.47m, replacing the previous Record of 7.24m, and Discus Throw of 19.89m that CRUSHED the previous Record of 17.93m in 2010.
The “Dark Horse” Record of the Constitution Classic was Aiden Moran in the Boy’s (7-8) who is already putting pressure on N3, that’s right, Neil Howard III by jumping 3.17m in the Long Jump, passing N3’s previous Record of 3.16m! This may be the Record of the Day, as N3 heads off to the State Meet to pursue a few more Records of his own!
