A Race to the Wire!

For the second straight week, what began as a rainy, gloomy forecast for the fourth stop of the Empire State Liberty Tour, (USATF Adirondack Junior Olympic Championships), turned out to be a wonderful day for championship competition! With nearly 350 athletes ready to provide their best perfomance, an equal number of spectators watched with anticipation to see it unfold.

“This meet brought to the table some exciting, record setting performances, and close finishes”, said Anthony Mills, Executive Producer of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series. He adds, “The purpose for the Liberty Tour is to provide athletes with a competitive environment in which to develop and fine tune their athletic skills. The Adirondack JO Championships provides the qualifying stage for each athlete to compete against the best in the Adirondack Association.”

Shondelle McCray, of the Country Mills Eagles (pictured above), wins the Bantam Boys 100m dash. Emory Parsons, from East Greenbush, set a new Empire State Liberty Tour record in the Young Mens Dicus Throw with a toss of 53.82m, while Morgan Wheeler (Averill Park Road Runners) set a Liberty Tour record in the Intermediate Girls High Jump at a height of 1.57m.

“What a fantastic facility they have here”, exclaims Anthony. “I have nothing but praise for Ichabod Crane High School for opening their facility to the Tour! It is my hope that this location will become a traditional host for one of the Empire State Liberty Tour meets each year.”

If you have not taken the opportunity to participate in any of the Liberty Tour meets, you still have one more chance. The Independence Invitational will be held Friday, June 30th, at UAlbany. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. and it is the only night meet on the Tour.
