True Test of Patriotism

It has been stated throughout time that adversity is the fertile ground from which Great Opportunities can grow, and Great Things accomplished. With that thought in mind, the Patriot’s Invitational faced its fair share of 2010 adversity. At the top of the list would be the lack of a contract agreement with Finish Right Timing, which has been the only Timing & Results service of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series in its short five (5) year history. Due to personal issues, the “Voice of the Liberty Tour” was lost indefinitely; and due to job redistricting, the Liberty Tour lost its Photographer. To add fuel to the fire, the Finish Lynx camera on loan for this meet failed to effectively capture the start of each race, and for the first time in Liberty Tour history, a meet was “hand timed”.Is it possible that there was Great Opportunity just around the corner? That is what each of the 800m runners are thinking at the start of the race (Pictured Above). “If I had to draw this up from scratch, I would never had drawn it up like this”, said Executive Producer, Anthony Mills. He continues, “The athletes, parents, and spectators have come to expect certain standards of excellence, and this was not our brightest moment, that is for certain.”
Regardless of his frustration, the 2010 Patriot’s Invitational did set a record for registered athletes with 288 showing up for the opening leg of the Liberty Tour, crushing the record by more than 100. The Meet Director, Lisa Mills, noted that, “We are happy to have had such wonderful weather, and a fantastic amount of support from the volunteers from Averill Park Road Runners. A special Thank You is extended to each of the Coaches and/or Parents that stepped up to assist with the hand-timing of the meet.

One constant at all Liberty Sports Group events is the honoring of the Flag that represents the United Sates of America. These young ladies willingly offered to show their patriotism.

One of the most important aspects of every meet is to emphasize teamwork. The Delmar Whippets are a text book role model for such.

The Liberty Tour encourages the participation of athletes at all ages, and the benefits associated with doing so. This 800m Run provides a very clear example of that.

As an Open Athlete, Jared provides in flight learning opportunites to much younger athletes, as the watch him clear the bar.

Track & Field is a sport of feet and inches, but on the Track, it is mostly feet, as the Midget Boys prepare for the start of the 1500m Run.

Although it may appear that this event is the “Indian Run”, it is merely Aaron, Chad, and Brandon keeping in stride during their 800m Run.

Sprinting is more than just running as fast as one can; it is a completely separate form and style of running, and this young lad from the Delmar Whippets performs that style nearly to perfection.

If the meet was actually timed with FAT, Mitch Flanger from the Country Mills Eagles would likely have set a new Patriot’s Invitational in the Midget Boys 400m Dash (of course the aerodynamics of the sunglasses makes all of the difference).

This young lady from the Glencadia Bullets will surely set 200m records throughout the season, if she can continue to post times similar to her performance today.

Abby Atkins from Averill park Road Runners shows that age is nothing more than a state of mind (well some of the time), as she races to catch the Lady Whippets in the 4 x 100m Relay.
