Go East Young Men, Go East!
You have heard it said, “Go West Young Man!” But for this Sunday, that call came for a new direction, “Go East Young Men, Go East!” And, to the USATF East Region Open & Club Championships these men went. From Right to Left (Pictured Above), Lee Prowell, Adam Harris, and Jeremy Bascom were the top three fastest men of the day respectively, with Lee finishing the 100m Dash in a blazing time of 10.34 seconds. Athletes from 11 USATF Associations descended upon Ichabod Crane High School Sports Complex to compete at the 2009 East Region event. With warm temperatures and mostly cloudy skies, it was a great day for competition, not too hot, not too wet, but just right.
This Championship event comes with a $2,400 Prize Purse, providing $400 to the top Men’s and Women’s teams, along with $500 for the top Male and Female athlete in Travel Stipends to attend the USATF National Championships at Icahn Stadium. The undisputed Champion in both divisions was Conquest, with the Women outscoring 2nd Place Colonial Track Club by only 7 points, and the Men edging out Zenith Velocity by only 6 points.
USATF Adirondack will host the 2010 East Region Open & Club Championships once again, but this time with the addition of the Master’s division as well. According to Executive Producer Anthony Mills, “This will be a very exciting meet, with so many athletes from so many backgrounds providing so much talent from both years past, and present. We are eager to bring it to fruition.” Set to take place July 3rd & 4th, this two day event will also feature the Heptathlon and Decathlon, along with the Weight and Super Weight Throws. Be sure to register early, and set your calendar aside for this competitive event.
