Track & Field… The Individual Team Sport
The challenge with Liberty Games events that are contested outdoors is that one NEVER knows what to expect from the weather. Although we began the day with a bit of rain (necessary to keep the heat down), it soon became a “Golden Day” (pun intended)! Not only was the Track & Field event the host for the Liberty Games, but it was also the Final Leg of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series, which began on Memorial Day Weekend. The Team that took 1st Place at the Patriot’s Invitational, also rose to the occasion on this day. That honor went to Chatham Gold!
According to Anthony Mills, Executive Director for the Empire State Sports Council, “Chatham Gold had a solid all around effective Team.” He continues, “They succeeded by attending every Liberty Tour Track & Field Series meet, and they were able to compete in multiple age divisions from Primary (6 & under) through the Master’s (35+).”
Track & Field is the ultimate Individual Team Sport! There are more than 20 different events that encompass nearly every form of Motor Movement Skill, with more than 20 age divisions. One of the youngest members of Chatham Gold is Emilie Goodrich, who is just five (5) years old (Pictured Above). She took 1st Place in the Primary Girl’s 100m Dash with a time of 24.59 seconds! Fortunately, all of the points were doubled for the Liberty Games Track & Field event, so this young lady earned 10 points for her Team, instead of just five (5).
Chatham took 1st Place in the Team Standings for the Liberty Games with 644 pts. In 2nd Place was the NY Nova Starz with 386 pts. Country Mills Eagles took 3rd Place earning 277 pts., and the Glencadia Bullets were in 4th Place with 100 pts. The Liberty Tour Track & Field Series totals will be forthcoming, and announced at the Liberty Tour Banquet in January. Each of the Gift Certificates will also be awarded at that time.
