A New State Games is Coming in 2012!

It is likely a safe guess that many of you that have visited this site in the past couple of weeks are wondering what in the world are the Liberty Games?  Some of you have asked questions about the number of sports being contested, and others are keenly interested in where the Liberty Games will be held.  There have been many additional questions, and so now is the time to begin to shed some light, and provide some of the answers to those of you with Inquiring Minds!

As many of you are aware, the Empire State Games were suspended in 2009 due to budget issues, and then returned in 2010, only to be completely cancelled in 2011.  After hearing so many folks from around the state offer their perspective on the value of a State Games competition, then subsequently being encouraged to take our years of experience in event production and management and put together a plan to resurrect the State Games, the Empire State Sports Council was created for such a purpose.

Born from the confluence of three essential pillars of life, Exercise, Education, and Health, the Empire State Sports Council was the appropriate culmination.  With a desire to create various Sports Programs with an emphasis on Youth, Masters, and the Physically Challenged (including injured War Veterans), the Sports Council will teach and help develop many of the Basic Motor Movement Skills, as well as Fine Motor Movement Skills for athletes of all age divisions.

With three (3) of the founders being former Teachers and/or Coaches, Education was a critical element that the Sports Council decided is absolutely necessary in order to do more than just teach Motor Movement Skills to athletes, rather the emphasis is placed on the athletes learning how to learn.  In this manner, a teacher does not need to be present for learning to take place.

Life can be lived to the fullest when athletes understand the important combinations of proper Exercise, Nutrition, and Hygiene.  By incorporating these elements into everyday life, athletes will begin to implement them as part of a necessary routine in order to enhance their daily activities, whether it be at school, work, or entertainment.  The Empire State Sports Council believes that Sports Are For Everyone, Sports Are For Life!

A brief announcement was made public back in December of 2010, and the Sports Council has been working feverishly for the last year on everything from logistics to sponsorship, and just about everything in between.  The website and logo for the New State Games were launched in mid November of 2011, which you have seen if you have visited our site recently.  If not, then let it be known that the Liberty Games are coming in 2012!

There are so many new and exciting things to tell you, but we cannot let all of it out of the bag at this point.  Is the suspense killing you or what?  What we can tell you is that there are three (3) completely new dynamics that have been built into the Liberty Games, which will allow more athletes the opportunity to compete, and that no longer will there be a need to feel left out because you did not make the cut for a particular team.  We can also tell you that there are currently about 30 sports that will be contested of which Track & Field is one of them (you probably already knew that, though).  However, did you know that Karate is one of them too?  How about Pickleball?  I’ll bet some of you are even scratching your head right now wondering what that is.  Keep coming back and we will let you know, as we will begin loading up some of the information for each of the contested sports in early February.

In the meantime, we would certainly appreciate your support of the 2012 Liberty Games, so if you would take just a minute to click the  DONATE NOW  button at the top of the page and make a contribution of any amount, the Empire State Sports Council would greatly appreciate it!
